Workshop on Dignity at Work
A workshop on the new amendments to the Dignity at Work Policy was held in the LGMSB on the
22nd April 2009. It was attended by over 60 local authority staff. Presentations on the day were made by LGMSB staff and representatives form the Equality Authority and the HSA.

HR Seminar: Managing Employment Contracts in Challenging Times
The HR Seminar ‘Managing Employment Contracts in Challenging Times’ was held on
27th January 2009 in the LGMSB and was attended by over 60 local authority staff. Presentations by LGMSB staff included the following topics: fixed-term contracts, redundancy & dismissal and organisational impact of terminations and redundancies.

The Eleventh Annual Local Government Human Resource Conference
The Eleventh Annual Local Government Human Resource Conference took place this year in the Hotel Kilkenny, Kilkenny from Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th November 2008.

The Local Government Disability Conference
The Local Government Disability Action Plan Conference took place in Hotel Kilkenny on the 17/18th September. The Conference began on the Wednesday evening with a welcoming address by Kilkenny County Manager, Mr. Joe Crockett, followed by dinner.
The conference was opened on Thursday with an opening address by Mr Michael Malone, Kildare County Manager. There were a number of key speakers throughout the day and delegates had the chance to attend two of the four plenary sessions, which were held in the morning and afternoon.
The conference was a great success and feedback from delegates was very good.

Launch of the National Guidelines for the Protection of Children
A seminar on the guidelines of the protection of children was held in Local Government House on Friday 20th June and was attended by 90 local authority representatives.


The National PMDS Seminar
The National PMDS Seminar took place on Friday 9th May in Local Government House. The theme of this seminar was 'Embedding PMDS Effectively in Local Authorities' and was aimed at Senior Management. Seminar topics included; Driving Change Through PMDS and Case Studies on PMDS Implementation in Local Authorities.

Irish Language Conference March 08
The LGMSB held what is hoped will be its first annual Irish Language Conference called, Comhdháil an Fhochoiste Gaeilge in March.

Launch of Safe System of Work Plan (SSWP)
The Safe System of Work Plan (Working on Roads) was officially launched by Mr. Billy Kelleher TD, Minister for Labour Affairs on 4th March 2008 in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise.

HR Strategy Framework Launch Feb 08
The HR Strategy Framework was launched on 14th February 2008 in Local Government House. This is a high level HR Strategy Framework developed by a HR Strategy Working Group made up of representatives from the LGMSB and the local authorities with advice from an extrernal HR Consultant.

Guidance for the Control and Management of Traffic at Roadworks
Information and awareness seminars took place in Jan/Feb 2008.

Official Opening of Local Government House
Mr John Gormley, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government officially opened the new offices of the Local Government Management Services Board at Ushers Quay, Dublin 8 on Thursday 29th November. The Minister congratulated the Board for their foresight in commissioning the new offices which include major energy efficiency measures.
 
Annual HR Conference November 2007
Minister Killeen addressed Local Government Conference on "Shaping the Future of HR". Mr Tony Killeen, Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, addressed delegates at the Local Government HR Conference held in Newcastle, County Down on the 22nd November 2007.

The conference was organised jointly by the Northern Ireland Local Government Staff Commission and the Local Government Management Services Board in Dublin to examine people management and development challenges facing public sector organisations today. During the conference, HR professionals and senior managers, primarily in local government organisations North and South, considered key questions related to the skills and knowledge required by HR professionals to enable them to contribute to the achievement of organisational goals and the delivery of effective local services.

The Minister welcomed the co-operation between both bodies in organising the conference “Clearly, joint working and sharing of good practice in human resource management and related issues can only be beneficial, as we seek to ensure that local government is in a position to respond to the increasing demands of a rapidly changing society” the Minister said.

The Minster also welcomed the fact that equality issues were being addressed as part of the conference programme since 2007 has been designated as European year of Equal Opportunity for All. “This is a fitting topic for HR professionals as successful organisations are noted for the value placed on the individual, so that he or she can appreciate their contribution to the organisation and thus add value to the service provided” concluded the Minister.
